The shade. When I think of the shade, I think of heat. Of growing up in Texas and wishing the shade actually brought relief from the heavy air. Of swinging in a hammock, relaxing into the grass, waiting for a cloud to pass over me.
The shadows. Soft or harsh. Deep or shallow. A place to hide or a way to forget. A perfect silhouette or a ghostly doppelgänger. Peter Pan. A necessary result of life's brightness.
