Style Sunday - An interview with Mina Georgescu

Hope everyone has had a Happy Holiday Weekend with all kinds of warm snugly memories to get them through the rest of the long, cold winter. Unless, of course, you are Down Under. You are still allowed to have warm snugly memories of course, but please also send some sunshine our way up north!

Anyway we took a short break in the interviews to prep for the holiday rush, but we are now back in full force and ready to continue interviewing the fabulously talented ladies of FPOE!
This week we are exploring the world of Depuis by Mina Georgescu, whose work has a lovely vintage quality, while still being modern, fresh and vivid. Read on to learn more about this talented lady before popping into her shop!

A Romanian-born photographer, Mina Georgescu now lives in Brooklyn, NY with her husband Lucas. Like many photographers, she has a small collection of cameras. However her go-to tools are her Zenith, her Minolta (both film cameras) and her Canon EOS DSLR.

When did you realized you were a photographer?

Mina
I took my very first pic at the age of 7 which I still have. Photography grew in me but I never really considered it to be my main thing. I guess that's how you explain my attending an Architecture Profile High School, Foreign Languages & Literature College and my semi-Master's Degree in IT.

FPOE
How would you describe your style?

Mina
I'm in a phase of self discovery so I try new things most of the time, I think style comes with time and experience.

FPOE
What inspires you to pick up your camera?

Mina
It's a tic I guess.

FPOE
What subjects really speak to you?

Mina
I just recently fell in love with Coney Island - see my Magical Places series.

FPOE
Tell me a little bit about your shooting and editing process.

Mina
Hmm... I love photoshop, there's so much more you can do with it compared to the darkroom techniques. I combine photography and digital painting.

FPOE
Tell me about some milestones in your life and how they have deepened or expanded the themes of your work?

Again, still too fresh for all of that. But my biggest inspiration is my husband; if it wasn't for him I would have never had the courage of taking the big step and sharing my work with the public.

FPOE
What was the process that brought you to Etsy?

Mina
Etsy is one of my favorite shopping sites so I was familiar with it at the time I decided to open my shop.

What has your experience selling been?

Mina
It's been great, I have collectors from Australia, Netherlands and all over US. I love it!

FPOE
*Do you sell other products other than photos?

Mina
No, just decorative photography.

FPOE
Any advice to other photographers selling on Etsy?

Mina
Yes, keep at it. If you know in your heart your work is good keep going. There's an audience for every style.
